Sir Bartholomew James Sulivan 1
Noted events in his life were: • Occupation. 1 Louisa's sister married Bartholomew James Sulivan (later "Sir") who was on the famous voyage of HMS Beagle and a close personal friend of Charles Darwin. "Saint" Bartholomew Island, Galapagos, is named for him. Sir Sulivan was religious and Darwin's Wife requested that he (Darwin) tone down his tenacious agnosticism in his writings in deference to the Sulivans' religious feelings. (Darwin was still, of course, famously and, I'd say, appropriately, dispassionate in these matters of science.) Bartholomew married Young, daughter of Vice-Admiral James Young and Charlotte Fyers. |
